Global Issue Effects Of Today And Yesterday

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

The centuries-long process of globalization and carefully constructed trade strategy has helped some of the current superpowers establish their sphere of influence in the world. One can observe some of the historical impact of financial globalization on developing nations. For instance, without cotton exports to the Northern US and Britain during the Civil War period, the opulent palaces in Egypt, Jaffa, Palestine and other outposts of the Ottoman Empire would have never existed. Similarly, China has emerged as a super power as a result of textile and technological exports. Yet global issues have arisen because certain countries have gone to great lengths to protect their investments.

The last twenty years have shown a large increase in globalization trade, which was expedited by the decline of communism and closed door trade strategy. Countries like China and Russia have welcomed foreign developers in an effort to bolster and rebuild their nations. The Soviet Union was in a state of disrepair at one time and China was overwhelmed with poverty, but thanks to financial globalization, their countries are now valuable players in the world market.

Today’s global issues vary, depending on who’s questioned. Some activists say that US trade strategy puts the nation in a compromising position. While on one hand, the US is the world’s 2nd biggest exporter (after Germany), they are also the #1 importer as well. It’s difficult to imagine what would happen to the US economy if suddenly clothing, oil and technology prices skyrocketed through the roof and were put into a chokehold by Eastern markets. Others argue that another negative effect of globalization is that it can decrease competition in local markets and actually hurt some developing countries. For instance, the Free Trade Agreement with Latin American poses some problems as US countries exploit workers without accountability, yet Latin America is powerless to create and enforce regulations because American businesses will simply pack up and go to another Free Trade nation. Anti globalization activists point out that violence naturally increases in the economic poles of places like Colombia; and also, while multi-national corporations and politicians profit, the local farmers and common man languishes in poverty.

While there are abuses of globalization, resulting in global issues, there are some benefits of globalization as well. For example, World Bank points out that world poverty rates are diminishing, feminism and literacy rates are improving, life expectancy has increased and more countries are holding elections than ever before. It appears that commodities aren’t the only thing spreading across the borders, but ideas of elected officials, entrepreneurial advantage and freedom are too.

One thing is certain though, globalization has brought countries closer together which means facing up to other global issues such as global warming causes is now possible.

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

At the end of a long, backbreaking day at work, he sits down before the hearth. Humidor in hand, he enjoys the woodsy fragrance, expecting that long-awaited cigar. Every tension in your body disappears, you relax once you carefully light the cigar. Just that minute life seems to be without worries, certainly worth living.

If you want your cigars to taste well all the time you will have to store them properly. Improperly stored cigars may result in bitter tasting, molding, irregular burning, lighting troubles, and tobacco beetle infestation, amongst other things. Most cigar humidors come in the form of a box, room, or case particularly configured to preserve cigars at best taste and freshness. To be efficient both temperature and humidity level inside are important. Temperature should stay between the range of 68 to 70 degrees and the humidity level between 68 to 74 percent. This is vital because a cigar that is too wet will have a sour, awful flavor and a cigar that is too dry will burn too quickly and taste acrid. To keep the accurate humidness a cigar hummidifier is inserted in a a humidor. Several humidors arrive provided with a cigar humidifier. Others are distributed individually.

Cigar humidifiers may also be utilized in cigar rooms, showcases, and bigger armoires. According to the their size and the amount of cigars they can store you can purchase them in a variety of sizes. They work by blowing a cold mist into the air. In general they are in fact cool mist models. They have a reservoir full with water. The water is brought out by making use of a wick. It needs to evaporate and that’s why a fan will blow it into the air. Always use distilled water if you don’t want mold to grow in the humidifier. Also to avoid the growth of minerals never use spring water. Once a month you will need to refill the tank with water.

With a cigar humidifier fixed at the correct humidity and an efficient humidor, cigars could rest fresh-tasting indefinitely. A cigar humidifier humidor is truly invaluable.

Tea parties are great ways to socialize and to entertain friends, co-workers, family or just about anyone. In fact, as an event, the tea ceremony is making a resurgence in popularity.

More often people are planning tea parties for friend and family, neighbor and co-workers and using them as a theme for things like baby and wedding showers, graduations, birthdays and other commemorative events. The old tradition of mid-afternoon tea parties has been replace by the freedom to have them at whatever time fits everyone’s schedule.

One of the things that is making tea parties popular is that they are so flexible. They can be adaptable to children, adults, or both and can encompass the range from very formal “high teas” to casual garden parties, all the way to super laid-back picnic leaf tea parties. It all comes down to the kind of atmosphere and experience you want to create for your guests drink tea an relax.

Strolling through a garden laden with fresh blooms, with a cup of tea in hand, is a picture many think of when the idea of a tea party comes up. While such a gentile setting can evoke old-fashioned sensibilities, tea parties should not be thought of as no longer being in fashion.

While the beverages are an important element of tea parties, so are the choice and tea sandwiches, cookies, fruit salad, muffins, scones, and pasta salad are all great options.

Tea sandwiches are traditionally thin pieces of lightly toasted bread with garden vegetables and cream cheese as toppings, but they can be anything from simple cucumber sandwiches, egg salad, pimento cheese or chicken salad, to fancier selections such as tomatoes with ricotta cheese and basil, or ham with apricot jam and Dijon mustard.

Also, canapes and any type of that can be picked up and eaten with toothpicks are great for tea parties as are deserts of miniature pastries such as eclairs lairs, petits fours, and cream puffs.

Tea parties that are held in garden settings are a nice choice because they don’t require too much work in the way of decorations and centerpieces. Whenever possible, especially if you want to involve children, they are best held in a grassy area on picnic blankets. However, if you will be having older guests in attendance it would be suitable to have a picnic table or bistro table and chairs available for them.

With some careful planning and attention to the details, you can make your iced tea parties seem like a truly magical event that will be remembered fondly for a long time to come.

Remember, though, that your tea party does not have to be perfect and having and enjoyable time with your guests is much more important than feeling anxiety over details that won’t be remembered. What will be reminisced about is the lovely relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere that was created.

Pet Care and Choosing a Pet

One of the most exciting things about keeping pets is that there literally is a pet for pretty much every personality out there. Regardless of whether you are looking for a simple pet, or a high maintenance pet, a pet that requires a lot of attention or one that prefers never to be held, there are enough domesticated animals out there that your perfect pet probably does exist. The level of pet care that your animal requires is a consideration that you need to make when choosing a pet because each animal requires a completely different level of pet care in order to live the best quality life.

Dogs and cats, for example, tend to be high maintenance pets when it comes to pet care. Both require regular grooming, flea and tick treatments, vaccinations, vet visits and daily feedings. Both dogs and cats require an additional level of pet care in the form of affection, love and attention. You cannot get a dog or a cat and simply expect for it to be content by itself all the time.

If you are looking for lower maintenance pet care, you may be better suited for a reptile, or a small animal such as a guinea pig or rat. Small furry animals tend to do well in pairs, and require far less attention than what a cat or dog would need. These small animals still do require a certain level of pet care, and some of the more exotic animals like ferrets and reptiles are going to require specialized knowledge and understanding in order to properly care for them.

Cat Care

Many people assume that birds are low maintenance pets, but they actually have strict requirements in order to be healthy and happy. Birds are best suited for individuals who are willing to spend a lot of time dealing with pet care on a daily basis.

There is no companion pet out there that does not come with its own unique pet care requirements. Even fish, which appear to be a relatively low maintenance animal, have their own unique requirements. It is vital that you maintain the right pH balance and temperature in their water, for example, and overfeeding or underfeeding can cause dire results. So while fish may not require affection or attention of any kind really, there is still a certain level of pet care required.

Bird Guide

When you decide that you want to bring home a new pet, it is essential that you address the level of pet care that is required to give that pet the highest quality of life possible. Do as much research as you can on pet care before you bring home any new pet, this way there will be no surprises and you will be prepared for anything and everything that comes up in the process of owning said companion. Pet care may not be an exact science, but it is vital to know what you can, because pets are not simply disposable possessions and you need to be prepared for everything that comes with proper pet care no matter what pet you decide to bring home.
