Network Testing For More Intelligent Business Decisions

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

But in one respect the network testing software tool of today is not much different from those in use a decade ago. Without fear of contradiction, I believe I can safely say that problems occurring at the lower open systems interconnection (OSI) layers have always been and will probably always be the plague of any software testing tool. This class of problem includes broken or poorly connected wire, “fogged” fiber-optic cable, electro-magnetic and radio frequency interference, misconfigured equipment, improperly conditioned lines, network congestion, lost data blocks, and protocols that silently discard frames and packets that cannot be handled.

It is true that the market has established the need for interoperable software testing tool. And international standards organizations have developed detailed, mutually agreed upon specifications for network operation that are more or less universally acknowledged.

And the myriad of networking equipment manufacturers (even IBM) have delivered products that have broken down the proprietary technology boundaries of the past. A market that was once dominated by individual manufacturers is now led by industry-wide forums containing manufacturers, users, and government agencies that gather to define and establish universally acceptable approaches to networking opportunities.

This is all true and it is all good, and yet the connection is still sometimes noisy, the wire still breaks, someone upgrades the software, someone moves a node, someone hangs a picture or digs a ditch and the trunk, coax, twisted pair, and so on is bisected.

When that happens, a real live person must get into an elevator, truck, airplane, or space shuttle and travel somewhere to make things work again. When that person leaves for the service call, some sort of test equipment had better go along, or the problem won’t get fixed properly, fixing the problem will cause other problems, the problem will take too long to fix, or the problem won’t get fixed at all.

All of these scenarios lead to the need for subsequent service calls or supplemented service calls, extended down time, loss of network-generated revenue, and unhappy network users. With the cost of commercial downtime skyrocketing and the cost of service calls easily exceeding $ 100 per hour, high-quality, easy to use, portable, and rugged wireless network analyzer equipment is clearly needed and can be easily justified.

This all leads logically to the conclusion that until truly self-healing networks are developed that can repair their own communications channels, instead of simply switching to a backup channel, there will be a continuing need for test equipment that can quickly and easily diagnose complex and simple problems.

Ansel Adams: The First Hdr Photographer

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Good old Ansel Adams was the first HDR photographer. He captured a greater range, using a development technique called ‘pulling’ to reduce the contrast of the negative in order to preserve a greater range of information on his negatives. This was developed into what was called the Zone technique. Since his time, film curves have gotten less steep (indicating a greater range of a workable negative).

All photographers when starting out with fashion photographer this technique inevitably makes prints that are too flat or too contrasty. It is very difficult to change the dynamic range of the eye into a photograph and then to produce an (apparently) accurate dynamic range from the photo. Masters of this technique, Ansel Adams and Minor White, among a many others, produce images that vary in dynamic range greatly from what the eye sees, or what a straight print would produce, but do not appear unnatural.

That is to say, it is not ‘better’ or ‘worse’ to effect the dynamic range of a photography. However, it does reflect a mastery of the technique when this technique does not impact the viewing of the image. It is also to say that HDR simply means “high dynamic range,” where “high” can only be assumed to be used relatively. Considering the history of photography has included with it a steady increase of the dynamic range of its medium, the extension of “HDR” is constantly shifting. “True HDR” is either meaningless or requires a certain context to be defined. The same can and should be said of “True Photography.” Have any of you ever shot without a light meter? Perhaps THAT is true photography, since this how it began.

Further, we should remember (or learn for the first time) Kant. He (basically) told us that a beautiful painting is not, should not be beautiful simply because we like painting, or this painter, or this kind of painting. A photograph is not, should not, be beautiful simply because it uses HDR. It is beautiful because it excites our imagination and our understanding, puts them endlessly into play and raises our minds awareness of itself and humanity. Or something like that.

How To Get Away With Online Gaming

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Come on. We all know who wears the pants in the relationship, and chances are it’s not you. It’s your wife. That’s right - that woman who’s put on at least 10 extra pounds around the midsection since you married her in some elaborate ceremony a long time ago when she had a figure that could rival Jessica Alba’s, the very same woman who you’re now afraid of because, no matter what she’s become, she’s still the love of your life and the mother of your offspring.

Obviously, she’s not going to be happy that you’ve developed an online gambling habit, and naturally, you’re scared. But instead of blabbering around like an idiot, why not stand up, be a man, and show her the merits of your new hobby? Here are three points to help you strengthen your case:

1. Online casinos keep you at home. Indeed, she no longer has to fret about what you’re up to with the boys because you’re right under her nose in front of the computer at home at all hours (or at least, the hours when you’re not at work). She no longer has to scream at you over the phone to tell you that you have to be home in ten minutes because - surprise, surprise! - you ARE home, happily raising and calling bets with the free poker bets under your belt.

2. She can easily monitor your bankroll. This way, she won’t have to worry that you’re spending all of your life savings or your children’s college fund on ‘em games of chance. Of course, she can only do this if you actually give her access to your account because it’s very much secured to keep you safe from scary stuff like fraud and identity theft. But then, you probably would - give her access to your account, that is. Besides, she might be even impressed with the amount of free casino bets you’ve racked up in there.

3. You’ll be earning extra income. That is, of course, if you know what you’re doing and actually win something. The best part is a good portion of said extra income was probably earned from many a free bet. Of course, she’ll be demanding (not so) little treats from you, meaning you’ll no longer have an excuse not to take her on that cruise, or buy her those freshwater pearls that she’s been coveting. But then, you know that it’s a small price to pay to get her off your back while you enjoy hours upon hours in online gaming heaven.

Horsemen, Don’t Let Taxmen Break Your Heart

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Is cash from horse racing tax-free or do you get taxed until it breaks your heart? This question hounds newbies who are new to the circuit, and even those who have been around much longer but have never won large enough to merit the filing of tax forms.

The truth of this horsing matter is that horse racing and breeding expenses may be tax deductible - but only if you can prove you don’t race or breed horses as a hobby. What kind of proof does the IRS need? A lot! After all, the IRS does not fool around when it comes to matters of the wallet. As a matter of fact, the IRS has a list of requirements you must meet to prove you are operating a business and are not engaged in a hobby.

These include:

1. You depend on your income from horse racing or breeding for your sustenance.

2. You invested money, time, and effort into making the business profitable. To this end, you must be able to show you are either running the business yourself or are directly involved in its operations. Consequently, you must put in a lot of documented hours - time for which you are compensated or are directly profiting from.

3. You are racing or breeding horses in a businesslike manner. Thus, you keep exact and verifiable records of your cash inflow and outflow, and the horse racing system of accounting that you follow.

4. Your business must be raking in profit. More concretely, to avoid having your venture classified as a hobby, it must be in the black for at least two out of every seven years. Otherwise, the IRS would have reasons to suspect you are simply using horse breeding or racing as a tax shelter, and thus, they will be more likely to audit you. It’s no mean feat having the IRS poke their long noses into your business. You will find yourself having to come up with truckloads of documents. At the very least, you will have to hire a tax lawyer to defend your claim of running a legitimate business.

5. Your losses must be in the normal range expected of a start-up business. Other losses must be due to of circumstances beyond your control. Again, the IRS does not want you turning the venture into a tax shelter.

Horse racing or breeding is fun, but not when it’s time to deal with the IRS. To avoid unnecessary headache come tax season, make use of many horse racing tip and equine resources found online. While many only discuss the basics of punting, there are materials that teach horsemen how to get their figures right for the taxmen.

Raising Awareness Through Fund Raising Auctions

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

The auctions can be as serious or as fun as you like. A fundraising auction is a fantastic way for your organization to get some exposure and to get people to dig deep in their pockets for your cause. There are a few approaches you can try for this type of event.

Some Fund Raising Auction Ideas

If you are just after a simple auction you can approach various businesses and individuals to make donations towards your cause. These can come from any business sector – the more the better as the bigger the appeal will be the more items you have for the fund raising auction. Travel companies can donate small holidays, businesses can donate their goods and the people can donate their services. All of these items will ensure your fund raising auction is a great success.

If you want to make your fund raising auction into a bigger event why not make a night of it? In the same way you can approach various businesses to make donations for you to auction off. However you can go one step further and organise a formal sit down dinner for before the auction. This will give your guests time to peruse the items for auction and also means that you can get more funds from selling tickets for the dinner itself.

In line with this you can also organise a ‘Bachelor Auction’. These are just for fun, however can create a great social evening for your fund raising auction. Normally you approach several men, or women for that matter, and auction them off to the highest bidder. All of this is done in good fun and depending on the crowd that you have could mean a very profitable evening for your charity.

An important part of your fund raising auction will be to find a very good auctioneer. It seems a little pointless to go to the hard work of organising such an event if you are going to get an auctioneer who does not appeal to your crowd and makes the event boring. You need someone who is going to motivate the crowd and get them in a bidding frenzy. This may seems a little difficult, however ask around or visit some local auction houses yourself to get a feel of who to approach for your event. This person will normally donate their time by offering to run your auction.

Aat Distance Learning Courses: Is It Difficult?

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Acca Distance Learning
The beauty of distance learning programs is that you can finish the course you are studying any time you want to. If you are a fast learner, a distance learning course can be finished even before the stipulated end time. You are the person who determines the pace of your learning in a distance learning program.

Accounting Learning Online
Most instructors use recorded audio and visual material because it gives them enough room to speak as extensively as they want to. You can get an elaborate lecture from your distance learning instructor, thanks to recorded visual and audio materials. Recorded media however come with the disadvantage of limiting interaction between the instructor and the teacher.

So you can’t be in two places at the same time – at work and in school – so what? You can take your accounting course online by distance education in any school of your choice. Most colleges offer distance learning partly because of the ease of conveyance of correspondence, and partly because it does help to generate revenue at little or no expense. Mostly though, it is so as to be able to help all those teeming multitudes who find it difficult to actually be in school, but need to get their diplomas.

Accreditation or authorization to be called a university normally has to come from the national government of a state. This also applies to many of the courses offered by the institution, especially distance learning degrees. Many controversies shroud this practice and have continued to grow over the years, but you simply want to be sure that the one you’re getting is the real one.

Today, we have both synchronous and asynchronous technologies that are used in distance education. The practice has however traversed four to five ‘generations’ of technology in its history. There was printing and posting, and there was audio and video broadcasting. Later came audio and video teleconferencing, computer aided instruction, electronic learning (also called e-learning/ online-learning), and then computer broadcasting or webcasting.

There simply is no way to be 100% certain that students do not cheat in tests. Sometimes they are caught and severely punished, but this does not deter the obstinate ones. In distance learning, several attempts have been made and are still ongoing to solve the problem, but it persists. Colleges settle for techniques that show promise, and satisfy them for the moment.

Distance learning is not for the lazy man because it involves a tremendous amount of energy and focus. If you are derailed at the slightest thing, then distance learning may not be the best educational option for you. Distance learning is as demanding as on campus education.

Time constraints can be a challenge for distance education classes. Although professor and students alike might desire to ‘conference’ this might be impossible due to the different time zones at their different locations. Asynchronous technology solves this problem. The lecture is delivered on tape or by email, and everyone has access as they will, or when they have the opportunity.: Accredited Distance Learning High School

The Idiot’s Guide To Playing Golf

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

You see Tiger Woods play golf on TV, and you decide - right there and then, without ever setting foot on the green - you would like to play golf, too. You being you, you decide you will not only master golf, you will be part of the PGA tour after a year or two.

There are many things you need to learn before you can actually lord it over everyone else on the green - or ask friends for great golf gifts. The good news is that golf is a leisurely–paced sport that lets you get in touch with your primitive side through clubs, the swinging of clubs, and the aggressive use of force. The bad news is that golf laws do not always follow known universal constructs. Consider the following golf laws you need to learn by heart:

Law No. 1: Palm trees eat golf balls.

Law No. 2: Golf balls never leap off trees and bounce back into play. If one does, you could only be golfing in one place: a Hollywood set.

Law No. 3: Sand is alive. Not only that, it secretly hates you. Why else does it always work against you?

Law No. 4: Par-three holes were made to embarrass golfers. The shorter the hole, the greater the possibility of actually suffering loss of face.

Law No. 5: Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic. In fact, the pricier the ball, the greater its attraction to water.

Law No. 6: Your best round of golf will almost instantly be followed by your worst round ever. Moreover, the likelihood of the latter is directly to the number of people you brag to about the former.

Law No. 7: The player you most hate to lose to will always be the one who soundly beats you.

Law No. 8: All vows taken on a golf course and all promises made on the green are valid only until sunset.

So you see, while Tiger Woods might make the game seem like poetry, golf can be tough, too. You might want to postpone purchasing those golf items and set your sights on Zippo lighters or personalized money clips instead - at least until the next Tiger Woods news clip.

Not Only Kids Play The Cornhole Game

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Most people think that the bean bag game is something that kids play in gym class in elementary school. This is true at some schools, but the bean bag game is also a lot of fun for adults. This is often forgotten by most people. That is unfortunate, because there is a lot of enjoyment from the bean bag game, no matter what age a person has reached. Even people well into their senior years can enjoy this game because it is so easy to play and the rules are not difficult. Naturally, a very tiny baby or someone who was severely crippled could not play, but basically everyone else could enjoy the game. What your strength level is or how old you are does not matter in this game. The bean bag game is meant to be fun for all ages. In order to play it, a person only has to toss lightweight cloth corn hole bags at a board from a specific distance away. There is a hole in the board, and the object is to throw the bags through the hole.

If the bags go into the hole, points are scored. If they remain on the cornhole boards there are also points scored, but not as many. No points are scored for bags that fall short of the board or that hit the board and then fall off. The bean bag game is not specific to any group of people, and both men and women generally enjoy playing it. Basically the same game, some people call it Cornhole instead of bean bag. The only difference is that the board in the official Cornhole game is usually a foot longer than the board in the official bean bag game. Some of the Cornhole players, though, are using the smaller bean bag board because it is more portable. At only two feet by three feet in size, it fits in the back of pickup trucks and also in the trunks of most larger and midsized cars. This being the case, a lot of people like to take the game with them to get-togethers and parties and play it with friends and family members. This is much more common in the northern and western parts of the country, and not as popular in the south.

Many options exist for individuals who are interested in playing the bean bag game with others. Boards and bags can be purchased through the Internet, and some people choose to make their own as well. Generally people who do this will make them from wood. When they are bought from a dealer they can be either wood or plastic. There is a disagreement as to whether wood or plastic is the better choice for a bean bag game board. Wood is also a more traditional choice for the boards. They were originally made from wood and it is still more common. No matter what the board is made of, though, it can provide hours of fun for people of any age.
