Aat Distance Learning Courses: Is It Difficult?

The beauty of distance learning programs is that you can finish the course you are studying any time you want to. If you are a fast learner, a distance learning course can be finished even before the stipulated end time. You are the person who determines the pace of your learning in a distance learning program.

Most instructors use recorded audio and visual material because it gives them enough room to speak as extensively as they want to. You can get an elaborate lecture from your distance learning instructor, thanks to recorded visual and audio materials. Recorded media however come with the disadvantage of limiting interaction between the instructor and the teacher.

So you can’t be in two places at the same time – at work and in school – so what? You can take your accounting course online by distance education in any school of your choice. Most colleges offer distance learning partly because of the ease of conveyance of correspondence, and partly because it does help to generate revenue at little or no expense. Mostly though, it is so as to be able to help all those teeming multitudes who find it difficult to actually be in school, but need to get their diplomas.

Accreditation or authorization to be called a university normally has to come from the national government of a state. This also applies to many of the courses offered by the institution, especially distance learning degrees. Many controversies shroud this practice and have continued to grow over the years, but you simply want to be sure that the one you’re getting is the real one.

Today, we have both synchronous and asynchronous technologies that are used in distance education. The practice has however traversed four to five ‘generations’ of technology in its history. There was printing and posting, and there was audio and video broadcasting. Later came audio and video teleconferencing, computer aided instruction, electronic learning (also called e-learning/ online-learning), and then computer broadcasting or webcasting.

There simply is no way to be 100% certain that students do not cheat in tests. Sometimes they are caught and severely punished, but this does not deter the obstinate ones. In distance learning, several attempts have been made and are still ongoing to solve the problem, but it persists. Colleges settle for techniques that show promise, and satisfy them for the moment.

Distance learning is not for the lazy man because it involves a tremendous amount of energy and focus. If you are derailed at the slightest thing, then distance learning may not be the best educational option for you. Distance learning is as demanding as on campus education.

Time constraints can be a challenge for distance education classes. Although professor and students alike might desire to ‘conference’ this might be impossible due to the different time zones at their different locations. Asynchronous technology solves this problem.
