Nowadays, it seems like many parents are too busy to really take the time to do the things that parents should do for their children. I told her I had the perfect idea, but would not tell her what it was. I started working on the Smurf costume that very day.

Making Smurf costumes is a little bit tricky. You would think a Smurf costume would be an easy thing, until you really start on the work. It is much more than a blue outfit with white shoes and white hands. Of course, you can make it recognizable as a Smurf costume without putting in that much effort, but if you want to really make a bang up costume, it takes a lot of work. I actually had to make her a whole papier-mâché mask! It took me hours and hours to make the puffy hands, the puffy feet, and the little round blue belly. Finally, however, I had it done!

Needless to say, she was ecstatic about the Smurf costume. Not only did she wear it on Halloween, but she wore it the next day, and the day after that. She was so proud of it that she would’ve worn that Smurf costume for the whole weekend if I had not stopped her. I made her a deal that she could wear it when she got home from school. I did not want the other kids to be jealous of her, so I would not let her keep wearing it in school. After all, it was a great Smurf costume.

Whoever thought up the idea of slow cookers deserves a cook’s Medal for Convenience Award. Although they’ve been around for a long time and have been in and out of style a few times over the years, slow cookers are still with us, making one part of life’s many tasks – cooking – a heck of a lot easier.

The low cooking temperature allows a lot of latitude in cooking time, unlike the stove top or oven. If you’ve got a pot roast going when you leave the house, you needn’t panic if you’re delayed an hour coming home. Your roast won’t be overdone.

Here’s a list of the basic rules for use:

1.Whatever the size of your cooker, fill the pot between one half to about two thirds of capacity.
2.Vegetables should be placed in the bottom of the pot, with the meat on the top.
3.If possible, begin cooking on the high setting for an hour, then reduce heat to low for the remainder of the cooking time. This method gets the temperature up quickly, important when cooking meats.
4.Once you’ve started cooking, avoid removing the lid. Slow cookers take a while to get to cooking temperature, and removing the lid lets out moisture and heat, extending the required cooking time.
5.Dairy products and fish or seafood should be added only in the last half-hour of cooking. Ground meat must be cooked on the stove top before adding to the pot.
6.Any food you put in the cooker must be defrosted, never frozen.

That’s about all you need to know to make a delicious meal that cooks itself. You can opt to create your own basic recipe or go online for hundreds of terrific recipes. Slow cookers are one of the cook’s best tools. Treat yourself to one of these appliances – you deserve it!

Today, most families have to have two incomes to get by. Some women work because they want to and others work because they have to. Either way, it makes homemade cooking a little harder to come by. When the weather is bad and I really want to see a movie, I am grateful for pay per view on my television. I am used to the old listings of movies, but I had no idea how advanced this service has now become. Not only can I choose whatever I want from what they have to offer, I can watch it whenever I want. The days of ordering a movie and waiting for it to come on are almost over. Most movies can start the minute you order them.

We get pay per view movies once in a while, though I can’t say we do it every week. It seems to be a rare occasion when we can all sit down and watch a movie together. I love that I don’t have to go to the store to pick out a movie, fight with others over the last copy of what I want to see, and there are no late fees. I don’t have to worry about losing a DVD when we order pay per view, and I don’t have to worry about going out yet again to return a movie.

In most cases you must have digital cable to get pay per view movies, and I think you can also get them with satellite television service. I had regular cable for a while when I first moved into my current place, but switched to digital so we could get pay per view movies, Roadrunner Internet, and digital phone. Even if we order a few movies a month we still are paying less than we used to and we have a ton more options. We can also watch previews of each of the movies offered, and that helps tremendously when trying to decide if we want to view a movie or not.

If you have DVR, you can pause your pay per view movies or specials, though you should know you can’t record them. My husband tried. He didn’t think it would work, but he gave it a go anyway. It is nice to be able to pause a pay per view event though, because life rarely stands still long enough to watch a movie. I miss the days when I had all the time in the world and when visiting the video stores wasn’t such a hassle, but I am glad I can usually find something I want to watch right from the menu on my television screen.

When we’re young and fresh out of college, we don’t generally consider the future as a whole. What we’re typically focused on is the ideal career. Not that this is bad. It’s actually a great thing. We acquired our education, and now we’re playing the corporate field, and vying for the job that will set us up with a great lifestyle. We can soon purchase that home and ditch the apartment routine. A new car is probably in order since we can now afford something a bit nicer. Then before we know it, we’re married with a family. Okay, stop right there! It’s time to consider early retirement planning. Yes I do realize that this is slightly far off yet, but there’s no such thing as too early when it comes to retirement. The years can fly by much quicker than most of us anticipate.

I recall my 21st birthday like it just happened. Can you believe that? Sadly it was now ten years ago. YIKES, does that time ever sail by! There’s no altering it, stopping it, or even slowing it down. You simply have to take it as it comes. Since it moves so quickly, it’s prudent to get a jump start on things. Think about how long you wish to stay at your current career. How much should you be setting aside for the golden years of rest and relaxation? I do realize that it’s difficult to begin early retirement planning in your 20s, but if you can, then go for it. Wow, will you ever be glad you did so! If done properly, you could probably retire by the time you hit your 40s. That would be CHOICE for most of us.

What does early retirement planning consist of? Well, this all depends on what you’re currently dealing with and have in mind for the future. If you have children, you may also want to contribute to a college fund of some sort. On the other hand, if you’re single or simply married, you can begin the investing with ease. Even if it’s only 100 bucks each month in a savings account, it’s well worth it. Consider an IRA early on. This is a wonderful route when it comes to early retirement planning. The options range from stocks, to bonds, to savings, to real-estate investments. The choice is up to you.

Palm games downloads are the bane of my existence. You see, I am a confessed video game junkie. Since the first Gameboy came out, I have loved nothing more than playing portable video games night and day. It took all the will power I could muster to get rid of my portable game systems.
