Cramming And Passing
Cramming can be life-saving as long as you do it right. Too many people make the mistake of cramming but really placing nothing else in their head. The rush and thought of not having had studied or done your homework should be used as motivational factors to instill knowledge and learning as fast as possible. I have learned a few techniques that leads the mind to learn more than the customary. Here are some tips that might help you get ahead too.
Set the Time
Determine the total remaining time you have to cram. You will then organizeyour mind to absorb all the information within that allotted period. I find that setting Atomic clocks can greatly boost my mental and encourage me to set up phases that will ultimately lead to a sound and strategic study time. For example, if I only have an hour left to study, I would still divide the time into 3 or 4 phases, depending on the chapters and topics covered.
It can greatly help to know which chapters or topics bring in the most points. Knowing the details of the upcoming examination will also aid in helping you go through items that will truly come out of the test, instead of wasting time reading something that is very unlikely to appear. Desk clocks will also come in handy so you can quickly shiftfrom one area to another as the time allows. If you’re not yet done with a topic, move on so you do not miss other important areas. You will find that studying a new topic afterwards will be easier to absorb than sticking to one for a long time.
What Matters Most
Find out 2 to 3 topics which will most likely bring the most points. Remember that when cramming, your goal is to pass, but not necessarily in flying colors. Do not expect to score the highest. Instead, aim to get 5 to 20 points higher than the minimum passing rate. You will most likely just land in the middle. I know a few lucky ones who did top the test, using more advanced methods.
If the test is dividedinto different types such as multiple choice, essay, etc, compare these with the available topics and determine which ones might be placed in that type of test. Essays are usually the ones that will let you pass so place more emphasis in studying for these.
Oral Exams
In my experience, oral examinations are typicallythe hardest to pass since the examiner can see right through me. He or she would assume just by looking at a person’s appearance whether or not you just crammed. What I do is to try and look nervous that I’m taking the test, but not nervous in the sense that I haven’t studied. Look at items around the room like the Decorative wall clock which will help you feel more at ease and relaxed. However, don’t keep lookingat time when answering verbally or else you’ll feel like the exam takes forever.
