Chinese Symbol Necklace, What A Find!

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

While on vacation in Michigan, I was hoping to come across something different to bring home to my good friend. Tourist stuff was always ok, but, to me, lacked thought when it came to someone who I thought of as a great friend. Walking down a small side street, in a shop window, there it was! A beautiful silver necklace with symbols on it that, I must admit, I was not quite sure what they meant. Chinese symbol jewelry was what had caught my eye. There are many symbols, this store alone boasted 275, and if they did not have it, they could make it. I chose “best friend” for the necklace I purchased for my friend. She loved it and I have never regretted finding that special gift for her.

You Know Your Wedding Is Red Neck…

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Just for the heck of it and a good time for the soon to be bride and groom.
Take your mind off of all the wedding planning and read something fun for a change.

When your Wedding gown was bought at Goodwill on special sale day

your veil was bought at the fishings supply store to use after the wedding

you got your wedding ring as the prize for knocking the most bottles down at the county fair..

your wedding announcement in the paper read ‘I nailed him”

your 4 kids sang the wedding march for you

you wore hight heels for your beach wedding and got stuck in the sand heel deep.

you packed for your honeymoon using garbage bags

Instead of tin cans dragging behind your wedding car you untie your muffler and let it drag down the road

your bridesmaids removed their aprons from their McDonnalds outfits

your bridal bouquet grew in your backyard in a old tire

your something borrowed something blue is your mothers old hair wig

your reception is held at the bowling alley down town

Your caterer is also the dog catcher around town

you plan to spend your honeymoon in a rest area in the car

you keep your beer on ice in a kitty litter box

you have to remove the ‘Tag Stolen” from the rear window of your car to write just married

you make the groom wash his cowboy hat before the wedding day

you want an Elvis song sang at your wedding by a man dressed in Red

the officiant that marries you is your parole officer

the belt buckle your groom wears says Bubba

you get a set of fishing lure and you wear them as earrings

your car has a few bullet holes in it and you thinks its like air conditioning

you didn’t take out all your curlers so you would look nice at the reception

you bought your wedding cake at a truck stop

you went to the dump to look for wedding chairs

your grooms dress pants might be his wading boots

the wedding cruse you go on might be called Dairy Queen

your wedding photographer only has a brownie camera

your wedding photographer uses a flashlight for a flash

the only thing formal about your wedding is his black pick up truck

you have to share your front seat with your 2 hound dogs when you drive off

you use orange road cones for your bridal path for your wedding

your bridal shower was held at the laundromat

you board the Greyhound bus for your honeymoon

Japanese Creative Barcodes

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Cut out your UPC label and… frame it

Barcodes, or UPC symbols, these ubiquitous emblems of our consumer civilisation, have received a radical makeover by a Japanese firm D-Barcode - and this time their ideas were printed on grocery products all over Japan.

Simple, yet brilliant ideas:

The first time you pick your bottle of pop or a package of milk, you might not even notice anything different, with all the intensity and typical clutter of Japanese package . But take a closer look - and the charmingly designed UPC masterpieces will amuse you, make you smile, and might even cause you to go hunting for other products, to start your collection.

Trust Japanese to “glorify” every single mundane detail, to cheerfully enhance consumer experience - by adding something extra, a little thing, so easy to miss. But now, with these creative bar codes, the package in Japan has truly become perfect.

Other barcode pops up from time to time: This is “Flowers” by Dave Herbert - via

Russian Barcode Posters

Art Lebedev studio has been issuing wildly creative posters (featuring barcode symbolics) for years. View the whole creative gallery of them here and download some for your desktops. Some examples:

As you can see, there is truly an abundance of ideas… It seems that barcode symbols are ingrained in the very fabric of our reality. Philip K. Dick, for once, would’ve certainly spotted a conspiracy in all this. As for us, we’ll just keep shopping and innocently buying everything that scans.

Barcodes permeate modern

Just try to have an exhibition of modern furniture without a few examples popping up, like this one:

“The Bar Code Chandelier”, by Mobilet studio:

More glowing barcode light fixtures by Hampstead Lighting:

Check out a LEGO barcode scanner, described on this page. It includes an actual miniature laser, so handle it with care:

How about a bar code building? - via

Portraits, made entirely from UPC codes and barcodes? Sure, check out the gallery of Scott Blake. He’s got Monroe, Elvis and, of course, Jesus - which is a commentary on the consumerism and kitsch of our times.

Want to know the time? Click on his Barcode Clock:

And as it is a custom nowadays to finish with a cute or LOL-lified cat pictures, no matter what the subject of an article, here are the “Barcode Kitties!” - Hello Kitty spin-off for those in need of a truly geeky cuteness:
