Discover More About Christmas Trees

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

When I look at Trees for sale or with decorations, they bring back a lot of memories. The tree is one of the most recognizable symbols of the holiday season. Buyers of these most sought after decorations basically have one issue to consider: Should I purchase a real evergreen or an artificial tree? Hopefully, a little reflection and some browsing around on the Internet could help you decide.

Your own personal tastes is the first consideration you want to make. If you are a stickler for tradition then there are chances you will be interested by the traditional live tree. There are a lot of beautiful varieties available during the holiday season and you can even order a live tree on the Internet.

The live evergreen holiday decoration is perfect for the traditionalist and it is also a great item to consider if you live in a small appartment. If you have a cramped attic and your basement is overflowing with belongings, then a real tree is a great choice. You don’t have to be concerned about stocking it away after the holiday season.

The odor that the live Christmastree brings into the house is great and there are some who really make a strong connection between this smell and time. For several persons, there is no better option than a real live evergreen for their ornament needs.

time is a time of traditions and customs. Why not take a minute and play some Christmas trivia and learn how other countries celebrate the holidays. Or maybe learn the history behind some of the things that you have been doing for years. Why do people kiss under the mistletoe? Which countries eat turkey for dinner? Who delivers gifts in Russia?

There are sites with great trivia questions not just for children but for adults as well. You might even find a tradition from another country that you could introduce to your family this year to make the holiday even more special.

Harrods Shamed

Friday, November 21st, 2008

After a small piece of griping I came out with a few months ago about the wrong use of Charity on some Charity Cards I read a “Which” report today that took a go at the companies that are using the phrase charity as a marketing gimmick rather than a statement of intent. Dame Hilary Blume who is the director of the Charities advisory trust said that unless at least 10% of a cards retail price is given to Charity, it shouldn’t be allowed the title of “Charity”. Personnaly I think the amount should be closer to 25% but Im not in a position where i need to be as guarded about my observations.

A company in the best position to be charitable, “Harrod’s” was at the bottom of Which’s study providing the smallest quantity from their cards to charity. Of the products they were selling gave back as little as 3.9% to charity and the highest % per pack was 10% which from my point of view I think isnt Charity at all. This poor decision in marketing led to them being awarded the Annual Scrooge award by the charities advisory trust who looked at different stores during the final week of October and the start of November.

46% of the products sold gave less than 5% to charity with a huge 82% of Harrods Charity Cards packs giving less than 10%. The Georgy Porgy award for Greed went to Cards Galore with the majority of the packs giving less than 10% and some giving as little as 4.7%. Charity exploiters beware we are onto you! And you might well be getting one of these scathing rewards if you don’t change your ways. Bah Humbugs!

Not to be completely negative there is a bit of light on the horizon with some great charities grouping together to provide you with quality Charity cards that return 79% of their money from every sale to the charities that really do need them. As with anything like this, vote with your feet and have a look on the packs to see the amount you are giving to charity and if its not very much buy somewhere else (if they don’t let
you know on the pack its probably because they would rather you didn’t know.

The Normal Holiday Present Is Not For Me

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

I’ve never been one to ask for a normal gift under my led christmas tree Every year around time I start wishing for something special that no one else has. Believe it or not, every year Santa comes to my house and gives me exactly what I want, who ever since I’ve been a small child I’ve believed in.

As an example, there was a time that I wished for two gentlemen to court me on Valentine’s Day, and it happened. A goofy smile came over my face later that month, because I was thinking Santa made it happened. I thought I would try my luck again the next year, I again wished for something extraordinary, which is I would meet a man on a train when I go to Berlin. During my trip, only two days before day, when I was traveling by train going to Berlin, a man spilled dark coffee at me. Six months later I married that man and he is now my Husband of many years. Now that is a great gift no one gets under their led xmas tree.

I figure after so many years of great presents that Santa has delivered to me I would ask for something for someone else. this year I’d like to use my wish for one of my patients who has a bad case of diabetes. She is supposed to have her foot cut off that she is losing to the disease on the 1st of January, after she acquired a diabetic foot . She is the mother of three children and a Russian immigrant; the eldest is only twelve and the youngest is two and a half. Her husband died of myocardial infarction two years ago. Her life will be a lot different if she has the operation, knowing that her income only comes from a simple family business of pottery and blown glass.

If I could get anything I want this holiday season, it would be that I will be able to perform the operation very well, and I can give the best advice to her family so that other complications of diabetes will be prevented. I also wish that the government would give more priority concerns for minority groups, especially those who are suffering from severe illnesses.

Decorations For Christmas Cheap

Friday, November 14th, 2008

is the time for family gathering - what’s better than everyone in the family sharing joy and fun together in such wonderful holiday mood?

However, what most people have not known is the fact that there are some essential guidelines when it comes to decorate for christmas of the house, from the point of view of feng shui.

Starting from the interior of the house, the first thing we can think of is a tree. And it goes without saying that a tree is to be enhanced with loads of gifts and all sorts of odds and ends - to make it look like a tree, so to speak.

Now when we look at this well-equipped tree in terms of the “5 elements” according to the Chinese Feng Shui philosophy, it will be classified as a combination of the “wood and fire” element because by itself a tree is “wood,” and with so much enhancement making it look so glamorous, it is further turned into a “fire” as dictated by the I-Ching interpretation.

Then it is very easy to come to the conclusion that one is not to put the tree in the NW direction because the “Monthly Flying Star Table” of December of 2006 dictates that the “#5 Star of Yellow Earth” is right over there at NW and if this element is stirred up or ignited by so much Wood and Fire, much disharmony will be manifested.

This also applies to other decorate for christmas in the West and NW direction of the house, be they inside or out. For example, red and flashing lights are to be kept away from these 2 directions as they are where the monthly and yearly “#5 Stars of Yellow Earth” lie.

This is the most basic and yet secretly guarded strategy in authentic Feng Shui application. Anything that has to do with this “#5 Star of Yellow Earth” is to be maintained in a very static and low profile manner. Or disharmony of any nature will result.

Another area of concern is the fireplace. It’s easy to understand that a fireplace is of the “Fire” element, and that if it were located in the direction of the West and NW, then it’d be better not to light it up during the holiday season in 2006.

It’s understood that it’d be too awkward to not light up the fireplace when it’s freezing cold just because some Feng Shui tips say so. To be on the safe side, locate some white earthen objects around the fireplace when it’s lit such that the “Fire” element will be generating the positive white “Earth” earthen objects, rather than the negative “#5 Star Of Yellow Earth” in that direction.

The most auspicious star happens to fall upon the South direction in December of 2006; therefore - whether it be the tree or fireplace - it’d be good to light them up if they’re along the South direction of the house.

These basic and yet important principles apply to the interior and exterior of the house. For example, if there were a big tree outside of the house in the South direction, then it’d be to your best interest to really light it up with everything imaginable to make it look absolutely glamorous. Doing so will enhance the harmonious energy of the environment.

Have fun and enjoy the holiday season with a twist using a bit of Feng Shui christmas decorations tips!

Merry to you and all yours!

I Get Stress For The Holidays Every Year

Friday, November 14th, 2008

They say that everyone has to experience the blues at least once in their lifetime. For me, I always thought that that’s impossible. is my favorite. It is the holiday that I look forward to the most. But they’re right. the blues have hit me. I am officially experiencing stress. I can’t even bring myself to hang the pre lit garland.

I don’t know what’s gotten into me. I just feel so tired lately. I was supposed to get gifts for everyone this week but I just can’t seem to find the right kind of cheer I need. It’s my personal shopping principle to have “the right kind of cheer” whenever you shop because it will reflect a great deal with the gifts you choose. To make matters worse, Jim just told me that their boss liked the dinner party we gave a few months ago so much that they “sort of” invited themselves again tonight.Jim must have “forgotten” to tell me again last night.

On top of everything else like the gifts I still have left to buy, and the stress I have going on, I still have a dinner party to get ready. I’d like to switch the toggle to turn myself into Superwoman. There’s nothing going on. I am overly tired. I hope I’m not coming down with the flu or something. That would be hard on the children. They’re really expecting my usual upbeat self during season. I don’t want to bring down the party.

Ugh. I truly don’t feel very good.Excuse me…. WHAT!? My stress is officially over.

I just found out that Jim and I are having a baby! Bring on the party! I guess the pre lit garland might get hung this year.

Get Your Christmas Lights Now Before The Holiday Rush

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

You can also use lights to decorate any one of the rooms that can be found inside your home. There are many individuals who hang lights along the top of their walls. This is a great way to bring extra spirit into the room that your tree is in, as well as other rooms. In fact, you can even use lights to decorate one of your home’s bedrooms. This idea is often loved by teenagers and other children; many enjoy the bright lights and colors. Decorating your home’s bedrooms is a great way to bring the spirit into a room that you may have otherwise not decorated.

As nice as it is to decorate your home for , you may also want to decorate your office or your workspace. Unfortunately, not everyone celebrates . This may pose a problem, when it comes to decorating your office workspace. However, you can still, in many cases, use lights to decorate your office. In most cases, you will find that it is the decorations that scream that cause the problems, not the lights themselves. Therefore, if you supervisors approve, you could easily hang lights around your office walls or along the sides of your work desk.

Cheap Christmas Presents I

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Your typical American will spend hundreds, or even thousands of dollars on Christmas present. Even during lean years, you have to get a present for everyone. Although few people admit it, most people at one point or another look for cheap presents. You don’t want anyone to know that you are getting a cheap Christmas presents, of course. You want your present to look expensive, valuable, and exclusive. Nonetheless, if you can save a lot of money on gift ideas, it can really help you out in the new year.

One of my favorite solutions is to make cheap homemade presents. A lot of people don’t realize how many fascinating, thoughtful presents can be easily made at home. You can make frames for photos, beautiful collages, organizers, shelves – basically, almost anything that you would want to buy someone, as long as it is not high-tech. And because it is homemade, it has that personal touch to it that your friends and relatives will really appreciate.

Of course, not everyone is crafty. A lot of people just never spend that much time making things, and don’t know how to go about it. For these people, making cheap presents at home is simply not an option. Another good suggestion for finding presents, however, may be more fruitful. One of the best things to do is to buy closeout and overstocked items. Often, you can get high quality clothes, furniture, books, and other products if you are willing to choose based on price. You can save even more money if you’re willing to buy your cheap presents online. The earlier you start, the better. After all, the price is bound to increase when it is getting towards time!

Another way to save money on cheap presents is simply to agree about it ahead of time. Most people don’t like doing it this way, but some families do. One year, me and my sisters were all poor. We decide that we would all get each other cheap Christmas present. We agreed on a spending cap, and no one went over it. That meant that no one had to feel bad for spending too little money. Everyone felt happy about the gifts they got and the gifts they gave, and it was a great holiday. I was glad that we decided to talk ahead of time.

If you want to find a gift that is of quality, but might not be too expensive, you should start looking all throughout the year for ideas. This has worked well for me. I can find great stuff, but when you look at the price I paid, you might think I have gotten a cheap gift. In reality, I have just been smart about shopping. I always check through clearance aisles for things that have not sold, but that I know someone in my family would appreciate. I store them in my closet and then pull them out for the holidays. I save a lot of money on some great gifts this way.
