Avishay Carpet Cleaning Boston On Removing Carpet Yourself

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Are you ready for a new carpet? If you have already consulted with a carpet cleaners boston company and that carpet simply cannot be saved and If you are a do it yourself-fer, why not save money by pulling up your old carpet yourself, before having the new carpet installed. Most carpets are installed using a stretch method, this method uses tack strips so be very careful when removing this as you do not want to get injured. And since most carpets are installed using a carpet tack strip you should pretty much make sure to wear some heavy duty gloves when removing it.

To begin pull back a corner section of the carpet using pliers. Then loosen the rest of the carpet from the tack strip by shaking or wiggling it and begin cutting the carpet into sections of about 3 to 4 feet widths. This will allow for manageable sized rolls. As a general rule it is best to hold the carpet away from the floor while you cut, this avoids ruining the floor underneath the carpet.

To remove the staples, that will most likely have been used to staple in the carpet padding use needle nose pliers they seem to work the best. The best method to remove those nails it to grab a piece with the pliers and twist it in a rollover fashion. If however the padding was glued to the floors, try using mineral spirits to soften the adhesive, however if you do not care about the floor underneath you can try a flooring scraper.

Next you will need to remove the tack strips, If you are concerned about the floor underneath, for instance if there is a hardwood floor underneath that you wanted to salvage, it is best to leave this job to a professional, however if the floor underneath is not a concern then the removal can be accomplished with the use of a hammer and a pry bar.

Also remember that if you are putting in a new carpet you should also want to keep it well maintained. The way to do this is by vacuuming it every day to remove loose dirt but also you do not want to forget to schedule a routine professional cleaning with a company like Avishay, they are a local carpet cleaning boston company, they can come in and handle the job right. It happens to be that for carpet cleaners Avishay is a well known locally owned and operated company, visit them on their website at AvishayCarpet.com

Grand Piano Dolly – Why Is One Important Anyway

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

People ask me the same question all of the time. Whenever I am at a cocktail party or out with friends and they ask me what I do, I tell them I sell – A piano dolly. I get a blank stare right back at me. Give me a few minutes of your time and I will tell the whole story for the world to finally know what a piano dolly is and why it is one of the most best pieces of equipment for anyone who moves pianos.

Piano dollies, plain and simple, are tools used to move a piano. They take lots of different shapes and sizes and can vary quite a bit in their actual function but the general idea is the same for all piano dollies - they move pianos.

A grand piano dolly in the shape of a spider is likely the most widely purchased kind of piano dolly that exists. Most grand pianos at a church, club, music hall or hotel will need to be moved at some point. The grand piano dollies have long stretching legs and extend from a central point out to each leg of a piano. They are attached by raising the piano around the leg of a grand piano, typically with a hydraulic lift, then by legs are secured into place and the piano dolly typically remains on the piano for life. The new wheel set is attractive, is out of the way of most of the people looking at the piano and makes it very easy to roll the piano to any new destination you desire to take it. The wheel can be locked when there is a wish that the piano not be moved for a time. The wheels are easily unlocked with a simple press of a toe against the clip on the wheel to free the brake.

Many schools have upright pianos that have a dolly constantly adhered to the instrument to make movement in the classroom much more manageable. Most pianos do not come with wheels so the upright piano dolly sets are important to afford teachers the ability to have greater flexibility in the area of classroom configuration.

For a professional mover of pianos, a piano mover is a necessity. Pianos can weigh up to half a ton or more and they are large enough to cause injury if not moved properly. Piano dollies can help a single person to come to a house, pick up a piano and move it out of the house, down steps and into the moving truck. The piano dolly not only eases the strain of a piano move much easier, it makes it much quicker as well.

Piano Dolly sets also are developed to be easy-to-install caster wheels in hard plastic cups that are placed over the end of each of the legs of a piano. These type of dolly sets are easier to afford and can accomplish the same task of helping to roll the piano to another part of the room or building.

Rats And Mice - Furry But Not Friendly Household Pests

Friday, August 15th, 2008

One of the most hated pests that can invade our homes come from the rodent family, these furry but definitely not cute little invaders can carry both disease and damage the fabric of our homes.

These common rodent pests are normally the house mouse or the brown rat, the one that was widespread in the country many years ago was the black rat, fortunately these tend to be found in minor colonies in a few of the country’s ports.

Mice and rat Pest control products and techniques have been developed over the years fortunately to eradicate these rodent’s from most households.

Even today though with conditions far more sanitary than every before, these unwelcome pests can still carry disease and bring it into the so if you do suspect infestation make sure you take some Pest control advice which you can get from your local exterminator or Pest control shop .

Rats can carry food poisoning organisms for example salmonella, and food may also be contaminated by contact with the rats droppings, urine or other contaminated bodies.

One major concern of poisoning from rats is Weil’s disease this is found in some 70% of rats, this is a serious risk to people exposed to waters contaminated by infected rats.

Mice and rat pest control is a serious issue if you have these rodent pests in your , or if you are in contact with areas of water where you think there may be a chance of infection then proper precautions have to be taken.

Many people use products off the shelf but some like to try their own pest control, these are often done by placing traps to catch the rat or mouse.

It can be a serious problem as a female rat can have a litter of baby rats (called kittens) when only four months old. She may then carry on to having up to five litters (14 kittens) per year, and then as the baby grows the reproductive cycle starts again.

The house mouse loves warmth, shelter and food supply and will inhabit any building where it can find this. Normally sheds, outbuildings or old farm dwellings are favourite places, but given the chance they will readily inhabit your .

The brown rat can normally be found living in underground burrows and have even colonized public sewers, but as the colony grows they get braver and will travel further in the search for food even becoming quite blatant even in human presence, particularly in heavily populated areas.

If they gain access to your , they may take up residence in concealed spaces such as cavity walls and lofts so be on the look out.

Choose A Faucet To Match Your Bathroom Style

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

It’s time again to fix that faucet. The constant dripping noise is driving you crazy, not to mention the sleep it is depriving you of. It’s not the washer in the faucet itself that’s gone bad this time; it’s the whole apparatus. A visit to Lowe’s or Depot causes total confusion as you stare opened eyed at the choice you are faced with. Help is seriously needed. How do you make the choice?

Keeping the Same Style Is Easiest

First of all you have to decide whether or not to stick with what you know and replace the faulty faucet with exactly the same style as before. The easiest thing to do is to simply replace your faucet with one which is similar or identical in style. You can even take off the malfunctioning bathroom sink faucet and bring it with you to your local hardware store where you can buy the matching replacement. Of course if this isn’t possible or even feasible, your chore becomes a bit more complicated. There are many different types of mounting for your faucet and you will need to be aware of what type yours is before simply going and purchasing the new fixture. This can often be the most difficult part of selecting your new faucet because, as usual, the one you really prefer will not necessarily work with the configuration of your sink.

Choose Your Type of Mounting

Common types of mounting include: widespread faucets that have individual hot and cold water handles; centerset faucets with one handle that controls both temperatures and covers the three holes that may be in your sink for mounting; mini-widespread which are the same as widespread faucets except positioned closer together; single-hole, similar to the centerset but filing in only one hole; and wall mounted, most commonly used for a bathtub faucet. Centerset and mini-widespread faucets are both designed for sinks with pre-drilled 4″ holes. Some single-hole faucets include covers that allow you to use them on a sink with 4″ pre-drilled holes. However, if yours is one of the other types, you’re better off using a replacement faucet of the same mounting type.

Once you have determined which type of mount will suit your sink, it all comes down to looks. Which finish will look best in your bathroom? This really is your personal preference and what will compliment the decor in your bath. If your bathroom has decor of an antique flavor you may decide to go with a classical style of rounded edges and flowery embellishments. For example, if your bathroom is more of an antique decor, you may want to stick with a classical style, an everyday decor could use either, and somewhat futuristic decor would definitely go well with modern bathroom designs.

Add the Finishing Touches

So you have chosen your new faucet and installation is on the horizon. Have you considered your faucet’s finish? Bathroom fixtures come in all manner of finishes from shiny to dull and wrought iron to chrome. Each finish has its pros and cons. Stainless steel and chrome are the most common finish available, but they scratch easily and show up fingerprints and water spots. Brass, which looks like gold and is very characteristic, rusts more easily. Brushed nickel has a nice flat finish, but is pricey and the plating eventually wears off. The finish is a matter of personal choice, but knowing your options will help you to decide.

Some faucets even offer a choice in the style of handles that come with it. Once again these should be matched up to the decor of the rest of your bathroom. The only thing left now is to take your new faucet and install it. And then enjoy the compliments you will get on this most basic of bathroom items.

Household Pests - Dust Mites

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Whilst none of us like to admit it we do all have pests of some sort in the which is why most of us keep pest control supplies to hand. The problem is however that most of the time we tend to focus on the ones we can see, not the ones we can’t.

One of the smaller (or should we say tiny) pests that fall into this category is the ever present house dust mite, but you’ll be pleased to know that this is definitely DIY Pest Control territory.

These dust mites feed off any organic residue that is left behind by humans, such as flakes of skin and dust. Outside survival is not something that dust mites can accomplish.

This is because they have evolved to specialize well into their environment that if they were to leave the house for some reason, they would immediately be killed by exposure to UV radiation from the sun or killed by hunting predators.

Dust mites are extremely dark and sinister, even though they may seem fascinating. They exist in our homes side by side with us.

Dust mites are the most common cause of asthma and allergic symptoms worldwide. The European house dust mites and the American house dust mites are the two most common species in existence, however, just because the names of these dust mites are European house dust mites and American house dust mites does not mean that they are only find in Europe and America. On the contrary, they can be found worldwide.

Because dust mites are extremely small, there are some people that have never seen one. You will require a magnifying glass and a strong light source to be able to see them correctly.

The size of dust mites is generally approximately half a millimeter in length. They are extremely light and can be carried around the by moving currents of air, such as when your turn on a radiator, or when a person stands up quickly.

Most dust mites can be removed from the by ensuring that you wash and clean properly. Dust mites will also die when they are exposed to high temperatures or freezing.

They also do not do well in places of low humidity. Dust mites typically live in beds, mattresses, bedding, furniture, carpets, and piles of clothing. This is because they can crawl deep into the material and hide from the sunlight and vacuum cleaners that may come looking for them.

As stated above, dust mites are one of the main causes of asthma and allergic reactions. Even though a large majority of the human population is not affected by dust mites, you may, on occasions, notice such actions as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, inflamed eczema, a steaming nose, and other hay-fever like symptoms.

Although many people are not aware that they live with dust mites, and some can live side by side with them without suffering from allergic reactions, it is important to attempt to get rid of them as soon as possible. Even though they cannot be seen, it is not a nice thought knowing that you may have dust mites in your bed or mattress as you are sleeping at night.

It is important to remember that because they are so light, they not only crawl on our skin, but we also inhale them whilst we are breathing in our sleep when they are in such close proximity, example, in our bed.

There are a number of various products available for the purposes of eliminating dust mites, which will enable you to relax and breathe more easily when sleeping. You will be safe in the knowledge that you are not sharing your bed with any unwelcome visitors.

Your local special should be happy to give you any Pest Control Advice you need regarding the best products to use.
