Finding Gifts For Kids Doesn’t Have To Be Hard

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

When it comes to finding Gifts for Kids, you have a lot of choices. The amount of stuff in the stores can be overwhelming, and your kids may tell you they want everything. You may also be faced with multiple relatives who are asking you what they should get for your kid for either their birthday or for Christmas. When this happens, you have to be prepared or your child may end up with repeated , or a bunch of stuff that drives you crazy.

First, you should find out what your kid wants. Make up a list of the things they really seem to want, and then add the things you may think they need. When it comes to for children, you and your kids will have different ideas about what makes a good gift. Narrow the list down so that there are some toys and other fun things, but also include some items like clothes, movies and the other things they may want, but don’t make a priority.

You should then decide which of the for children you want to get for your kids, and then give the rest of the list to relatives. Give each relative a few different ideas so there are not repeated toys and other items. Tell them which toys you think your child will want the most, but also suggest that clothes, books, and other practical items are also a good idea. This is a great idea if you have a family like mine. They always go overboard buying for my daughter, and we could open a toy store with the amount of stuff she gets. It makes life around here very difficult around the holidays.

When you are looking for gift baskets for kids, make sure you shop early. There are many times when a toy becomes popular, and you can’t find what you are looking for if you wait until the day before Christmas. This had happened to me more than once. There is also the problem of hard to find for kids. My daughter was Wiggles crazy on her third Christmas, and there was nothing else she was interested in. Wiggles toys and clothing were scarce around me, so I am glad I started shopping early. I had to get most of her Christmas that year online, but that was OK. She at least had what she wanted, and I was able to find some great deals on gift baskets for kids by shopping on online.

My Inspirational Grandmother’s Jewelry

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

When our oldest son, Maverick, was born, I wanted to give the grandmothers something special since he was the first grandchild. My aunt told me about inspirational bracelets. I had his name, birthdate, and “An Angel From Heaven” inscribed on the inside of the bracelets. Since then, myself and my sister have had three more children, and just added their names to the bracelets, and my brother in law even made one for his mother. I’ve started a really cool tradition in my family, and I hope it continues on for generations.

Find Out More About Thanksgiving - Free Advice

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

If you’re planning a party in the classroom, there are a myriad of games you can have the children play.

Be careful not to overdo the turkey aspect of . Some children forget that it’s about more than the turkey. Playing some fun games can help them remember the purpose of . Ok, some gratitude tips.

Try a gratitude bag. Fill the bag with several cards, each with something on it. Some will say “” while others will have a word or picture of other things. Some of those other things might be cars, food, clothes, etc. Have the children sit in a circle and draw a card out of the bag. If they get a card that has a picture or word on it other than “” they should talk about why they are thankful for that item and why others should be as well.

For example, if the child choose “shoes”, they might express how thankful they are that they have shoes so their feet stay clean and they don’t get cold in the winter and they stay unharmed when they are walking. If they draw the “car” card, they might comment on how nice it is to have a car and not have to take the bus, or how nice it is that their mom can pick them up from school so they don’t have to walk home everyday. With help from the teacher or a parent, they might even note that in many parts of the world, people don’t have cars (or shoes) and that they are lucky to have all these things. This is both Thanksgiving and education.

If the child chooses a card that says “” they should come up with an original idea about something they are thankful for. Try to steer them away from things like “Playstation” but instead steer them toward things like “my parents” and “my house and my room”.

For some thinking fun, have kids do a word find with words. Provide them with a list of words related to . They might be “”, “Cornucopia”, “Mayflower”, “Turkey”, etc. Then they must find words contained in those words. So, if the word is “Mayflower”, they might find words like “lay”, “flower”, “flow” and the like. “” might turn into “thank”, “sing”, and “an”. See which child can find the most words in the list of words you provide them. Try to challenge the kids to find words within the words that relate back to .

The old memory game is always fun and can be used for too. Have the children sit in a circle and have someone start the game by saying, “At , I like to eat” and then finish it with one food item. So that child might say, “At , I like to eat turkey”, and the next child will say, “At , I like to eat turkey and cranberry sauce.” The next child would continue with, “At , I like to eat turkey and cranberry sauce and green beans.” Each child will carry on until the list becomes so long, someone is sure to forget an item. You can either star the game over or keep going until everyone is out but one child.

Anniversary Gift - Show That You Care

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

It’s always a little bit tough to pick out the perfect Anniversary Gift for my wife. You see, we do something special for the anniversary every year. A sort of informal agreement was agreed upon. We each take turns to surprise each other. On our anniversary last year, she surprised me with a trip to Hawaii. To this day, I’m still puzzled where she got the money, but apparently she had been scrimping and saving for quite a while. The trip was the best anniversary gift that I ever received, without a doubt.

Click through if you prefer an article about other Cool Gift Ideas.

An anniversary gift she won’t forget

This year though, I don’t have as much money for anniversary for her. I have only put away a couple hundred dollars – not enough and a mere pittance compared to a tropical vacation getaway for two. Nonetheless, I want to surprise her with something very special. I know there are a bunch of anniversary gift ideas, but just picking out one thing is not enough.

When picking a wedding anniversary present, for me, presentation is as important as the present itself. Everything should go together perfectly for it be right. It would not be enough to just put a ring in a box and wrap it up, if I decided to give her one. Maybe I would have her go on a scavenger hunting trip, where she gets the ring as the last prize. Or perhaps leave the ring to a place and find it where she leasts expect it, say, on the table or on her night stand. As long as it really charms her, it doesn’t matter exactly what the surprise is.

An anniversary gift that counts

Of course, handmade ones are sometimes the best for anniversaries and special occasions. A few years ago, I made her a book. Not just any book. It was all about us and our relationship, the book was a collection of poetry, photos, and pictures. It was done in beautiful calligraphy and it was handmade. To hear her say that she was blown away by it would be understating the case. She was absolutely shocked and in awe. She adored and loved it. She still keeps it on her bedside table even to this day.

The right anniversary card can also make a huge difference. Don’t just stop by a convenience store before the event to look for anniversary cards – find one that is very special. After all, if you put all that thought into the anniversary gift, why not extend the thought with the anniversary card, right? If you don’t, it looks like you have let yourself and your wife down.

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

So you want to create a cartoon baby, do you? Well, let me show you how. The process is simple. First, create a rough sketch. Next, draw in some details. Third, clean up the draft and finally color it in. Sounds simple. Well, it is. If you have any kind of talent with art you’ll be the proud parent of your very own in no time.

When you decide that you want to create a the most important thing to do is create a rough sketch. A rough sketch will allow you to get a feel for the design without taking hours to draw it. If you decide you want to change your design you just change your sketch without throwing away all those hours of work.

After you have the general design you should add the detail to your . It is helpful to make photocopies of your rough design so that you can try different variations to give you a character of its own.

When the details are done clean up the draft of the cartoon baby. If you are working on paper trace your draft so that the lines are clean. If you want to digitize your this is a good time to do so. Once it is digitized make sure it looks exactly the way you want it to look before you move on.

I will give you the basic steps to do this, but if you need more information I have a great article on how to do that in flash. Bringing your to life is just a matter of dissecting him. What I mean is that you have to draw his body parts in many different positions. For example, if I wanted to draw his head in many positions such as: from the side, looking at me, and half-way in between each of these positions. I would do this so that when it became time to animate my , all I would need to do is put that the appropriate pieces together to make the appear to move its head.

After all of the parts are drawn in the various positions you need to make a story line for your character. If this is your first creation, make the story simple. Comic strips are excellent examples of simple story lines, because they are depicted in just a few frames and generally can be easily animated.

Gift Baskets Make Easy, Creative, & Original Holiday Presents For Anyone

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

One of the newest home business opportunities that is being promoted is making Gift Baskets. There are many people that are doing this as a business and making extra money. This is quite amazing to me because learning how to make gift baskets is so easy and the best part of giving them as is that you have personally made them up.

I was disappointed in the price that the person was asking for the gift baskets. Also the quality of the items seemed to be poor. I decided that it would be much easier making Gift Baskets for Kids myself. This way I could include quality items and not have items in the basket that I did not want. I went to a local discount store to pick out items for making gift baskets. I began looking through the baskets that were available. For my neighbor I found an old fashioned picnic style basket that had the hinged lid. She does a great deal of hand sewing so this would be perfect. I put a sewing scissors, thimble, thread, needles and a pin cushion in the basket. I also found a box of her favorite chocolates. For my father- in-law I found a basket that was shaped like a fishing creel. He had always enjoyed fishing. I put several kinds of sugar free candies in his basket. He is a diabetic so he needs to watch his sugar intake. I also put in a deck of cards as well as some dice so he could play games with other patients at the facility. I was finding that I was enjoying making gift baskets. For one of my sisters I decided to use a beach bag for the gift basket. She has a cabin that she goes to several weekends a year so she could use the bag to carry personal items. I put in a beach towel, sunscreen and a new novel. For my other sister I used a wicker basket and filled it with several bath gels and body lotions.

A few weeks later I was going to put together a basket for my sister. She was scheduled for surgery and I wanted to take the gift up to the hospital. I told me co-worker that I was going to do this over lunch and if she wanted to learn how to make gift baskets she was welcomed to come along. We went to a major discount store. I picked out a gift basket on clearance. I told my co-worker that I wanted to spend around twenty dollars on the contents. I bought some note cards, some of my sister’s favorite candy, shower gel and lotion as well as the newest best seller and a puzzle book. I bought a roll of cello wrap and tissue to fill the bottom. My total came to twenty one dollars and I had everything that I knew my sister would like. My co-worker said that a similar basket from the business owner would have cost three times that amount.

By making the Gifts baskets myself I was able to customize each of them to the person and also save money. I was not paying for items that I knew the person would not use, and I was in control of the quality of the items. This saved me money as well as insuring that I had special for each.

I think baskets make great , and they are fun to shop for. Making gift baskets will let you be creative and allows for great cost control.

Typical Black Friday Shopping Traps to Eliminate and Make the Job Easier

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Holiday shopping on Black Friday can be painful, but with a few steps you’ll breeze through it in no time . It may seem to some that the Holiday Season and all of the related shopping and agony are still a long way off. Well, News Flash! It really isn’t. Have you checked your calendar recently and been left wondering what happened to the Summer ? Another couple of months down the line here and before you know it the happy season will be upon us.

In one respect you might be correct . The needful planning of gift lists, meals to fix and holiday cookies to consume might not be far off, but the agony can be less stressful if you start coordinating now. Toddlers change everything, including Holiday plans.

The need to organize early is especially real for parents of new babies and toddlers. You have spent months thinking about trips to Santa, Christmas morning and sugarplum dreams. These first few Christmases spent with your and toddler are about as much fun as it gets. Don’t spoil it by letting the agony get in the way. Purchasing for and sharing the holidays with a child should be exciting! It can be!

I know from shatteringly bad events that lack of coordinating can spoil the season. I remember as a young mom getting geared up to get my Christmas shopping done. I contemplated each post- day sale ad carefully . Up to that time I had no kids and felt no need to take on the crowds in the post- riot.

I had yet to expose myself to the flashy ads promising untold discounts in both dollars and time. What urged me over the top and eventually kicked off a 5 am shopping spree was the ad featuring the desirable pedal bike for my son. It was attractive, and a full 25% off the sale price. This put the coveted present in our price range. I knew he would just like it and only one thing stood in my way: the actual buying of the present.

With purse, cash and newspaper flyer in hand I found myself shuffling out the door at 4:30 am on Black Friday, trying not to notice the load of dishes still needing my attention. Dishes could wait, today I had a intention: get one of the kids pedal cars for my three-year old. I returned home later that day with the pedal toy and a vow that I’d never, ever venture farther than my kitchen during the day after shopping madness.

In recent years I have reneged on my vow to never step toe out of doors during shopping hours the weekend following . Now with a bit of careful organizing I look forward to 3 am suicide missions seeking the desirable tricycles for my twins.

I have established a few ground rules and have a much more rigorous preparation routine than the naive shopper who once spent three hours snarling and snapping over Radio Flyer Wagons. I’ll share my secrets! I am glad to. After all I am reformed and love my yearly shopping spree. Don’t we all want to share what we like with others? Look for articles to follow that walk you through the planning and execution of blissful Holiday shopping on Black Friday, no matter how many children are in your life .

And if you are not wanting to go the crowd route at all, I suggest shopping online and skipping the crowds altogether!
