You may have noticed that you can have images put on virtually anything these days. One major development has been the production of edible photos. Edible photos are wonderful images of you, family members, friends or just about anything that you want to have placed on cakes or other food. You may have seen a cake in your local bakery or in an advertisement that had a picture on it. These images are completely edible and the ink used to make them has absolutely no bearing on the actual taste of the cake and frosting like fototorte.
You have no doubt seen all the edible cake toppers such as the sugar letters and numbers and images of favorite fairy tale characters. Edible images take decorating just a step further. For a child’s birthday you can actually have his or her picture transferred right on your cake no kidding even essbaresbild is possible. Imagine your child’s delight when they seem themselves in the frosting. These make wonderful birthday, graduation and baby shower cakes. Couples are even beginning to use them in wedding cakes. Beautiful tiered wedding cakes sport images of the couple from throughout their relationship. Edible images are an excellent way to show special times that has led up to the wedding.
You can find cakes with edible images in most bakeries or you can simply add the edible photo yourself. You simply bake and frost a cake and then add the image that you have purchased to the top. Many people are becoming instant cake decorators with this little trick.
You do need to ensure that your hands are clean and dry before you pick up the edible photo. You can also spray just a little bit of water onto your cake icing to ensure that the picture seals to the cake. Don’t use too much water however or your colors will run. Once you have moistened the top of your cake you simply lay the edible picture on it and you have a beautiful cake that looks as if it has been professionally decorated.
You will have to make sure that you center the picture or place it exactly where you want it as closely as possible the first time. Handling it too much may dull the picture or cause the colors to run. It is really very simple to add an edible picture to your cakes, however. Be sure also to place your edible image face up. Once you have it in place you can add a lovely icing border around the picture to make your cake extra special.
You can make your edible images yourself if you have the appropriate equipment. You will need an edible printing system and the edible inks and cleaners for this system. However, if you are simply considering having an edible image cake made for one occasion then you would be much better off simply ordering the image from someone local who makes them or from an online website that specializes in this type of imaging.
There are many sites which make edible images. You simply upload to them the picture that you want made and they will ship you the edible image just how Audio Books are shipped. Then you simply add it to your cake whenever you are ready. This is the most economical way to have the image transferred to your cake. Of course if you are planning to do these for friends and family, or to get into the business of decorating cakes with these images then you would need to find and purchase the equipment listed above. Whichever way you prefer, once you have seen a cake with an edible picture you are likely to never appreciate simply decorated cakes again. Cakes that bear these images are beautiful pieces of art that everyone will love.

Cut out your UPC label and… frame it
Barcodes
, or UPC symbols, these ubiquitous emblems of our consumer civilisation, have received a radical makeover by a Japanese firm D-Barcode - and this time their ideas were printed on grocery products all over Japan.
Simple, yet brilliant ideas:
The first time you pick your bottle of pop or a package of milk, you might not even notice anything different, with all the intensity and typical clutter of Japanese package design. But take a closer look - and the charmingly designed UPC masterpieces will amuse you, make you smile, and might even cause you to go hunting for other products, to start your collection.
Trust Japanese to “glorify” every single mundane detail, to cheerfully enhance consumer experience - by adding something extra, a little thing, so easy to miss. But now, with these creative bar codes, the package design in Japan has truly become perfect.
Other barcode art pops up from time to time: This is “Flowers” by Dave Herbert - via
Russian Barcode Posters
Art Lebedev design studio has been issuing wildly creative posters (featuring barcode symbolics) for years. View the whole creative gallery of them here and download some for your desktops. Some examples:
As you can see, there is truly an abundance of ideas… It seems that barcode symbols are ingrained in the very fabric of our reality. Philip K. Dick, for once, would’ve certainly spotted a conspiracy in all this. As for us, we’ll just keep shopping and innocently buying everything that scans.
Barcodes permeate modern design
Just try to have an exhibition of modern furniture without a few examples popping up, like this one:

Check out a LEGO barcode scanner, described on this page. It includes an actual miniature laser, so handle it with care:
How about a bar code building? - via
Portraits, made entirely from UPC codes and barcodes? Sure, check out the gallery of Scott Blake. He’s got Monroe, Elvis and, of course, Jesus - which is a commentary on the consumerism and kitsch of our times.

And as it is a custom nowadays to finish with a cute or LOL-lified cat pictures, no matter what the subject of an article, here are the “Barcode Kitties!” - Hello Kitty spin-off for those in need of a truly geeky cuteness:

The PocketMod is a new way to keep yourself organized. Lets face it, PDAs are too expensive and cumbersome, and organizers are bulky and hard to carry around. Nothing beats a folded up piece of paper. That is until now. With the PocketMod, you can carry around the days notes, keep them organized in any way you wish, then easily transfer the notes to your PDA, spreadsheet, or planner.
The PocketMod is a small book with guides on each page. These guides or templates, combined with a unique folding style, enable a normal piece of paper to become the ultimate note card. It is hard to describe just how incredibly useful the PocketMod is. It’s best that you just dive in and create one.
Many things make this little personal organizer special, here is a list.
It’s easy! Just select the “Create PocketMod” link above to start. You will need the Flash Player in order to run the application. PocketMod will run in your browser. Just select a “mod” from the list and drag it from the preview area to a page. After you have created your PocketMod book, select print. Once it has printed, you will need to fold it into the “PocketMod” form. Just view the “folding” video from inside the application for help.
That’s it! Happy organizing.
