I’m So Anxious About State Of The World Today

Monday, September 1st, 2008

I am worried about the state of the world today. I mean, the more you look around, the more things seem to be falling apart. Maybe those people who are saying these are the End Times are actually the ones who have it right!

Let’s start with our homes. We all know that house values have been decimated, just decimated in the past year or two. How can this happen? And now it seems we are in for even worse news. The Fed drops interest rates, but mortgage rates just keep going up. I hear that mortgage interest rate predictions are just for more increases, too.

Recent events have highlighted the impact of the current housing crisis on mortgage rates predictions. It began as a sub-prime mortgage crisis, but has now spread to the wider financial market, as house valuations plummet. Even responsible mortgages with a 20% down payment are suddenly turning upside down, as house prices in some parts ofthe country drop 30% or more, almost overnight.

In July , foreclosure filings were 50% higher than in the same month in 2007. More than 272,000 homes received at least one foreclosure-related notice in July - that is one in every 464 US households, or more than half a percent of all homes. More than 77,000 repossessions were actually carried out in July .

The presence in the market of a large number of homes in foreclosure and pre-foreclosure makes it increasingly difficult to sell homes for their full appraised value. Buyers know there are bargains to be had, and many simply don’t make offers on homes at full price.

There we have our cars. Lord knows, we have had a affair with SUVs for years - but could it be that rising oil prices will make this a doomed romance?

SUV resale values have fallen since last year, due to the rising price of gasoline. Demand for SUVs is falling rapidly, as people move to reduce their gas consumption. As a result, the value of a three-year-old GMC Yukon has fallen 8.5% since July last year, to just 34.2% of the value of a new vehicle. Oil prices are not likely to fall in the near future, so SUV resale values are likely to remain low for the long term.

The worst affected values are the Ford Expedition resale values - the value of a three-year-old Ford Expedition has fallen 12.2% since July last year, to just 32.48% of the value of a new vehicle.

And if we go looking for a way to make a bit of extra cash to cover the rising costs of home and transport, what do we find? Sharks and wolves at every turn, scams and swindles - like all those scams about working from home they warn us about over at the Second Income blog. Good blog, by the way - if you’re looking for some extra cash, check it out!

So we have the anti-Trinity - stress about our homes, stress about our cars, stress about our incomes. Sigh. Time for a hot chocolate and a trashy movie, I think!

Life Management Through Get Organized Techniques

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Would you like to improve your time management? If you find yourself easily distracted, missing important deadlines, or showing up to important events late, improving your time management may be a good idea. Unfortunately, many individuals do not realize just how much trouble poor time management can cause them. Get get organized techniques.

When it comes to improving your professional organizer, many individuals are surprised with all of the options that they have. One of those options is using time management tools to your advantage. If this sounds like an approach that you would like to take, please continue reading on. A number of helpful and successful time management tools that you can benefit from using are outlined below for your convenience.

An alarm clock is a simple, yet effective time management tool that you can and should use. What is nice about alarm clocks, is that most of us already have them in our homes. Be sure to set your alarm clock to get up in the morning. Consider resetting it five minutes before you must walk out to door to work, set it for when you want to start preparing dinner, and so forth. Although we often associate alarm clocks with getting up in the morning, they can actually be used for so much more, continue at life purpose.

A task , also commonly referred to as a to do , is another time management tool that you can and should use to your advantage. What nice about task lists is that they are free and easy to do. All you need is a piece of a paper and pencil. Outlining everything that you must do for the day is a great way to make sure that you stay focused and on task, which is an important component of managing your time. If you must, keep separate lists for home and work.

Daily, weekly, and monthly planners are other direction tools that can be used. The type of planner that you will use will all depend on your own personal preferences. With that said, many individuals prefer daily planners better, as they often leave more space to create a to do or at least a spot to write down important dates and times. If you do use a daily, weekly, or monthly planner, be sure to keep it with you at all times.

Calendar alert programs are other direction tools that come highly rated and recommended. Calendar alert programs are so much more than just a traditional wall calendar. For the most part, these time management alert tools are found on computers and cell phones. What you will need to do is enter in an important date and time. When that date and time arrives, you should receive a message on your computer screen or cell phone screen. Text message and emails may also be sent. These types of programs are often used to remember birthdays, but they can be used on a wide range of other events, projects, and activities.

Finally, another tool that you will want to consider using is that of a time management training seminar. In addition to attending a physical class, you may be able to purchase a seminar in video format. Although some individuals do not consider receiving training a tool, it is an important tool. There are professionals out there who can share time management tips with you, as well as help you improve your organizational skills. Visit time management.

Best Man Vs. Woman Explanation I’ve Ever Read

“Can’t We Talk?” (condensed from: You Just Don’t Understand)
by Deborah Tannen

A married couple was in a car when the wife turned to her husband and asked, “Would you like to stop for a coffee?”
“No, thanks,” he answered truthfully. So they didn’t stop.
The result? The wife, who had indeed wanted to stop, became annoyed because she felt her preference had not been considered. The husband, seeing his wife was angry, became frustrated. Why didn’t she just say what she wanted?
Unfortunately, he failed to see that his wife was asking the question not to get an instant decision, but to begin a negotiation. And the woman didn’t realize that when her husband said no, he was just expressing his preference, not making a ruling. When a man and woman interpret the same interchange in such conflicting ways, it’s no wonder they can find themselves leveling angry charges of selfishness and obstinacy at each other.
As a specialist in linguistics, I have studied how the conversational styles of and differ. We cannot lump all or all into fixed categories. But the seemingly senseless misunderstandings that haunt our relationships can in part be explained by the different conversational rules by which and play.
Whenever I write or speak about this subject, people tell me they are relieved to learn that what has caused them trouble - and what they had previously ascribed to personal failings - is, in fact, very common. (more…)

Recipe for a happy New Year!

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Recipe for a happy New Year!
Take 12 months, clean them from envy,
bitterness, costiveness, pedantry
and divide them into 30 or 31 parts,
so that the supply is enough for one year.
Each day individually arranged from:
1 part of work and
2 parts sense of glad and humor.
Add 3 accumulated tablespoons optimism,
1 tablespoon tolerance, 1 pellet irony
and 1 prize of time.
Then dowse the mass with
very much all over.
The finished court can be decorated
with Straeusel of small attentions,
serve it well with daily amusement!

- Katharina Elisabeth Goethe (1731-1808) -
